The three-day violent spree of protests have been playing out in the country's capital, New Delhi. According to hospital officials, 20 people have died as a result and close to 190 are injured.

The uproar is over a clause in India's new Citizenship Amendment Act. The law outlines a path for citizenship for people of every ethnic minority and faith fleeing persecution from countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, but leaves out Muslims.

This has left India's 180 million Muslim population feeling targeted by what they describe is an already Hindu centric government.

The protests have lead to school closures and a ban on assembly being issued. Police have described the situation as tense but under control.
