Three students from Seneca College received jobs at Global news, before they have their diplomas. Niza Nondo, Jigar Patel and Katrina Ramlochan have finished their courses but have not technically graduated yet.
Nondo and Ramlochan are Multimedia Journalists and Patel is an Editorial Assistant. On the topic of getting this job so young and so soon Nondo says "it makes me feel like I've been put in a unique position and I just have make the most of the position I'm in now because it rarely happens."
For one of the other student's, Patel, getting the job before graduation is an amazing opportunity and he says it is "pretty amazing to work for one of the biggest news stations in Canada, I got all the hands on experience working in class and through internships. My profs were always there to guide me whenever I needed help and I’m forever grateful for that.”
The professor's at Seneca are proud of their students, Long-time CBC journalist and professor of Seneca's Journalism programs, Barbara Caines says, "I'm so proud of their accomplishments. We train our journalism students how to be cross-platform journalists for TV, radio, online and social media and we teach them how to do all of their own production - recording and editing. It's exactly what the industry is looking for and as a result Seneca students are earning the jobs. To find out a 3rd journalism student has been hired in the Toronto Global Newsroom prior to graduation is fantastic news!".
These students will be receiving their diplomas at convocation in June.
