Dry conditions on Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands have caused the government to raise the drought threat level to level three.

If residents fail to voluntarily reduce their water usage, the province says they'll enact the Water Sustainability Act-- which allows the government to regulate water outflow.

Residents are being urged to take short showers, limit outdoor watering, and find ways to use efficiently use the limited water supply. Meanwhile farmers are being asked to install water-efficient devices.
