Canada-U.S border should remain demilitarized:PM Trudeau

Federal Liberals say White House officials are discussing sending U.S. troops to the Canadian-U.S.  border in light of security concerns related to Covid-19.

The U.S. is worried Canadian travellers might enter the country illegally and worsen the spread of the coronavirus.

Both countries have currently banned all non-essential travel to and from their respective countries in hopes of flattening the curve.

In a press briefing this morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his opposition to the plan, saying, "Canada and the U.S. have the longest unmilitarized border in the world. It is very much in both of our interests for it to remain that way."

No official statement has been made by the White House regarding their intention to send troops to the border, but sources inside the Trump Administration say the option is on the table.
