Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo say 36 civilians, in a village boarding Uganda, were killed by rebel groups in what they are describing was a mass execution.
The bodies of the victims were found in the Virunga National Park, the country's interior minister of North Kivu province said.
The civilians have been identified as residents of Kokola village. The government said the methods of the slaughter point to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group.
Congolese forces have been at war with the armed group since they emerged in the 1990s.
According to the U.N, the ADF has killed more than 1,000 civilians since last October, 2019.
