The Ministry of Health recorded 137 new cases of Covid-19 today, and among those infected is Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.
The minister has been at the forefront in updating the country on Zambia’s fight against the coronavirus.
But since last week, Dr. Chilufya and the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dora Siliya disappeared from the public eye, unannounced.
It wasn’t until Friday, May 23rd, when the public got a clear picture of the minister of information’s whereabouts when she posted a video on Twitter announcing she'd gone into self-isolation after testing positive for the virus.
Dr. Chilufya’s diagnosis was announced by his replacement, Dr. Simon Miti, during the Ministry of Health’s daily coronavirus press briefing.
The minister’s diagnosis comes amidst a criminal investigation into allegations he stole 44 million Kwacha from the government.
Zambia's total infectious rate now sits at 1,057, 271 of those cases remain active, 443 have been discharged, and only 7 people have died.
