Since the outbreak of the new Coronavirus, many of us have no choice but to stay at home.
Thousands of people have been laid off from their jobs; while students who are still in school have virtually resumed classes. But for those trying to find a way to keep themselves occupied during this pandemic, it’s a great time to start something new.
Here is a list of some options of what you can do while spending some time at home. All you’ll need is the internet, a computer, and possibly a smartphone.
Learning a new language:
Now is the perfect time. Of course there are applications such as Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, and Babbel available on your smartphone where you can learn a new language – but instead, why not join a language exchange group and find someone from across the world to teach you the language you wish to learn. You can learn about the different cultures, learn the language you want with a native speaker, and teach English or any other language you’re fluent at. That’s not the only thing though. You can also learn what’s happening across the world during this pandemic at their hometown. There are many groups available on Facebook. All you’ll need to search is “Language Exchange”
Join the Netflix Party
Do you have a Netflix account? Well then this is the perfect way to keep you more entertained. Netflix has created its own Netflix Party chrome extension. According to the website, there are over a million people who’ve installed the extension. People can chat with others while watching the same movie or TV show as well as “host long distance movie nights and TV watch parties.”
Stay active with some of Toronto’s gyms
Gyms across the GTA have shut down temporarily due to COVID-19, but it’s not stopping facilities from providing classes. Gyms and meditation studios are offering free online video classes through social media such as IGTV, Instagram Live, and other platforms.
Keep your head in the game and continue learning.
During the pandemic, it’s essentially important to keep your mind focused and continue learning. Whether its by reading or watching the news, watching documentaries, listening to podcasts, or watching video tutorials – its important. If you’re interested in learning something completely new, there are many online websites providing courses, and best of all – its free. You can take open online courses, receive certificates, specialize in a course or possibly take an online degree. Some of the ideal websites to learn from would be coursera, edX, and The Open University.
Of course there are many other institutions providing courses online, as well as pre-recorded lectures, and while these may not be based in Toronto, it’s still ideal to take advantage of, especially while self-isolating or self-quarantining.
