U.S President Donald Trump is so disappointed in China’s handling of the coronavirus that he’s considering cutting ties with the world’s second-largest economy.
Trump’s regular bragging of how good his relationship with China’s President Xi Jinping is, changed, in an interview with Fox Business on Thursday, to distaste. “Right now, I don’t want to speak to him,” Trump said, adding “they should have never let this happen.” Enraged that the virus hit the world shortly after signing a historic trade deal with Beijing, aimed at ending months of economic strife between both countries, Trump teased the possibility of scrapping the deal altogether. “The ink was barely dry and the plague came over. And it doesn’t feel the same to me,” Trump said. “There are many things we could do. We could do things. We could cut off the whole relationship,” he later added. Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the U.S president to strengthen ties with Beijing, in the name of peace and stability. For months now, Trump and the Republican Party have been accusing China of failing to adequately outline the scope of the virus when it first broke out. China, on the other hand, has disputed the allegations saying their government has been completely transparent. The virus has now engulfed the entire world and left more than 36 million Americans unemployed, and the world’s largest economy in shambles, as it tries to deal with record-breaking unemployment levels only seen during the Great Depression.
