India's ministry of technology said it had carried out a "digital strike" by banning 40 mobile applications, including Alibaba's e-commerce app Aliexpress, in the name of protecting the "sovereignty and integrity of India.”

Among the list of other Chinese app banned are Bytedance and Tencent. They join the list of 59 other Chinese based mobile apps banned in India early this year.

India's ministry of technology argues that the apps collect and share users' data and therefore pose a threat to the state.
