Indian troops die in a gunfight against militant forces

India's ministry of defence has announced the death of four Indian soldiers killed in a gunfight with militant forces in the disputed region of Kashmir.

The incident began, early this morning, when a platoon of Indian troops on patrol noticed suspicious movement on their line of control at Jammu and Kashmir.

“Army troops were rushed to the area and militant movement was tracked by surveillance devices. A heavy gun battle followed in which three militants were killed,” Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.

The last time Indian soldiers died in the region was this April.
