Elizabeth Warren is the rising star in the upcoming 2020 election
A recent survey has found that for the first time Joe Biden has some strong competition in the upcoming 2020 U.S.A federal election. Biden, who served as vice-president under the 44th American president Barack Obama, has only had a few close calls at the polls since he announced he would be running for president earlier this year. Up until this point, it appeared that Senator Bernie Sanders was Biden's biggest competition, but now that is no longer the case.
Elizabeth Warren's popularity is on the rise. She recently received a two-minute standing ovation from thousands of democratic party activists this past Saturday, came out on top in a poll released on Sunday, and is seen as the one to beat, according to interviews with approximately two dozen Democrats this week.
In the survey conducted by The Economist/YouGov, Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren tied at 26% support among registered voters. In a previous survey conducted by Monmouth University, Biden had 20% of the voter support and Sanders had 19%. But in this most recent poll it appears that Warren is swaying both Sanders and Biden supporters, leaving Sanders at 16%, a whole 10% behind Biden and Warren.
During an interview with The Boston Globe over the weekend, Sanders declined to criticize Warren and also declined to comment on whether he thinks New Hampshire will be a contest between just him and Warren.
“I am not going to speculate,” Sanders said. “Joe is a strong candidate. Elizabeth is a strong candidate. You never know what’s going to happen with five months to go.”
The Economist/YouGov polled 1,500 American adults from September 8th to 10th who were selected through an internet panel. The margin of error for registered voters was three percent. Find the whole poll in the link below.
Meanwhile Biden and Warren, while both Democrats, have starkly different campaigns strategies. Biden tends to not delve into what his plans and policies are, while Warren has a long list of plans for her possible presidency. Biden and Warren are due to debate for the first time this coming Thursday, September 12th. This debate is much anticipated, as Biden has a history of struggling and misspeaking during debates, while Warren once one a university scholarship with her debating skills.
