A total of 85 million pills of amphetamine were seized in a three-container shipment in the southern port of Salerno.

Authorities are calling the drug bust the biggest of its kind in the world.

Customs Police Officer Domenico Napolitano said current evidence suggests the drugs were manufactured by ISIS and was the terrorist organization’s means of funding extremism in Europe.

Police believe Naples-based Camorra crime clans ordered the large shipment of drugs, which police say has a street value of $1.15 billion, and planned to distribute it in masses after their first attempt, two weeks ago, failed when customs authorities in Salerno seized a smaller shipment of the same drug.

Police had to cut through thick layers of metal, which was meant to make the drug undetectable by scanners, to remove the pills.

An investigation into the Camorra crime clan has been launched.
