The Liberal Party of Canada is promising to improve access to family doctors, mental health services, and prescription drugs.
Trudeau made this announcement earlier today, saying the Liberals are seeking a mandate to create a program that can be negotiated with the provinces and territories in order to improve the outcomes of health care services.
So far, not much details have been released about the costs of this national pharmacare program, nor about how the Liberal government would implement it.
During a campaign event in Hamilton, Ontario, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said his party believes in universal pharmacare as laid out by the advisory council report commissioned by the current government. He then continued to say this decision isn’t only for the federal government, it requires negotiations between territories and provinces.
If re-elected, the Liberals say they will commit to $6 billion as a down payment for over four years to support a stronger Medicare system and public health care.
