Palestinian media say the man, identified as 24-year-old Haroun Rasmi Abu Aram, did not die, but instead has has been left paralyzed from the neck down.

Israeli authorities claim they were simply trying to stop Aram and a group of Palestinians in Al-Tuwanah village who were helping him build a house without permits to do so.

The Israeli army said its forces fired warning shots in the air to disperse the crowd before being attacked by the Palestinians.

According to the army, an investigation into the incident is underway.
