Police officer killed in a double suicide bombing outside U.S Embassy buried

Family and community members held a funeral for a 52-year-old police officer in Tunisia killed in a terrorist attack on Friday.

The 52-year-old father of three was killed by motorists strapped with explosive devices, with intentions of detonating themselves inside the U.S Embassy.

The terrorists failed to penetrate security checkpoints outside the embassy and instead discharged their explosives at security guards.

Five people were injured and one killed.

Today, Tunisia's prime minister, along with the officer's collegues, visited the deceased officer's home to extend their condolences.

U.S Ambassador Donald Blome also sent out his gratitude and condolences to the officer's family.

"We are outraged by the attack and saddened to learn of the loss of Lieutenant Taoufik Missaoui, and offer sincere condolences to his family and colleagues. We also wish for a speedy recovery to the brave Tunisian officers who were injured," Ambassador Blome said.

Tunisian authorities say the attackers were well known to law enforcement officers and previously served time in prison for terrorism-related crimes.

Both terrorists died in the attack.
