Drug manufacturing company Pfizer Inc has announced a breakthrough in its search for a vaccine against the coronavirus.

The U.S based company says it's developed a vaccine that has so far proven to be 90% effective on all the volunteers that took the medication. The only thing left to do now is to get the drug approved by U.S regulators in order for it to hits the shelves.
If granted permission before the year ends, Pfizer predicts to roll out up to 50 million doses of the vaccine by the end of December, then 1.3 billion by the end of 2021. The U.S will be the first country to receive the new drug.
“Today is a great day for science and humanity,” said Pfizer Chief Executive Albert Bourla, adding, "We are reaching this critical milestone in our vaccine development program at a time when the world needs it most with infection rates setting new records, hospitals nearing over-capacity and economies struggling to reopen.”
Countries such as Canada, the U.K, and Japan, have reached supply agreements with Pfizer, putting them on top of the list of countries scheduled to receive the vaccine early. Brazil's government is in talks with the drug manufacturer to also buy the experimental treatment.
Other countries not on Pfizer's priority list might have to wait until mid-2022 to get the vaccine. To compensate for that, the World Health Organization is calling for a $4.5 billion dollar boost in funding for Pfizer to insure poorer nations aren't left behind.
