Alek Minassian will be tried by a judge and without a jury once his trial starts on February 2020.
Minassian, who is from Richmond Hill, is accused of driving a van through a busy sidewalk on Yonge Street in North York on April 23, 2018.
Minassian faces 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder.
His lawyer, Boris Bytensky, said it’s uncommon for homicide cases to be heard by a judge alone, but the Crown approved his request.
The trial is scheduled to take place in Toronto.
