Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has denounced many of the U.S. President’s tweets sent over the weekend. President Donald Trump told a series of congress women to “go back” to their countries of origin rather than telling politicians how the United States should be governed.
On Sunday, Trump’s tweets were denounced as racist, and started a massive political firestorm. He targeted one out of four Democrats that have critiqued Trump for his impeachment, and were born outside of America.
Earlier today, Trump said the Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna S. Pressley should be the ones to apologize to him, the United States and Israel, for what the President claims to be “foul language and racist hatred”.
Trudeau, however felt differently. While speaking at a press conference today with the secretary-general of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, he said this sort of talk isn’t welcome in Canada.
Trudeau responded by saying "I think Canadians and indeed people around the world know exactly what I think about those particular comments. That is not how we do things in Canada. A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian. The diversity of our country is actually one of our greatest strengths and a source of tremendous resilience and pride for Canadians and we will to continue to defend that,"
Along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Theresa May also agreed that Trumps tweets were “completely unacceptable”.
Trump denied the tweets as being racially motivated, and said that it was rather an attempt to denounce “socialist” congresswomen who frequently complain about state of affairs in America.
He then continued to say "If you hate our country, if you're not happy here, you can leave and that's what I say all the time ... If you're not happy in the U.S., if you're complaining all the time, very simply, you can leave, you can leave right now."
