Woman convicted of killing an expecting mother and unborn baby to receive the death penalty

A woman convicted of fatally strangling a 23-year-old expecting mother and cutting her womb open with a kitchen knife to kidnap her unborn baby, has been put on death roll over the heinous crime, according to the Justice Department.

Lisa Montgomery, now age 52, to face death penalty on December 8, 2020.

Lisa Montgomery, 36 at the crime, committed the horrific act on December 16, 2004, and was convicted and sentenced to death in 2007.

Prosecutors say Montgomery cut 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett’s 8-month old womb open while Stinnett was laying on the floor, conscious, trying to fight off Montgomery.

Once Montgomery cut the womb open and strangled Stinnet to death, she took the deceased unborn girl child and paraded her as her own.

The whole encounter began when Montgomery left her home for Stinnett’s, to adopt a puppy. But prosecutors say, when Montgomery arrived at Stinnett’s place she took a rope and immediately began strangling her.

Montgomery's defense team claim their client was suffering from delusion and pseudocyesis, hence her actions towards Stinnett. However, members of the jury rejected her defense and found her guilty of first-degree murder.

16 years since the crime, Montgomery will now face the death penalty, via lethal injection, on December 8 and will be the first woman in more than six decades to face such a judgment.

It’s been 20 years since a federal inmate has been executed. Montgomery will be the ninth federal inmate to face the fate since executions resumed in July.
